AN ACT to Ascertain the Allowance of his Majesty's Council and the Members of Assembly of this Province and for payment of all Claims and to prevent leting out any more of the Loan Money on Interest


Whereas no provision is made by any Law of this Province for Settling and Affixing any Certain Summ to the Members of his Majesty's Council and the Members of Assembly

We therefore pray that it may be Enacted. And be it Enacted by his Excellency Gabriel Johnston Esqr. Governour the Council and Assembly that every Member of his Majesty's Council shall be Allowed and paid the sum of forty Shillings Current Bills and every Member of Assembly thirty Shillings Current Bills per day for every day they shall Attend at the General Assemblys Besides the ferriages of themselves Servants and Horses

And be it further Enacted that the several Members aforesaid shall be Allowed as aforesaid And for their Coming and Going to and from the Assembly as follows

From New Hanover County from the So. Side

From Hyde County

Tyrell County

three days

from the No. Side

four days

Bertie County

four days

Onslow County

three days

Chowan County

five days

Carteret County

two days

Bladen County

Six days

Craven County

One day

Pasquotank County

Eight days

Beaufort County

two days

   

Pequimons County

Seven days

Currituck County

Nine days

To New Bern and so proportionably to any Other place.

And for payment of Burgesses and all Claims allowed by the Assembly Be it Enacted by the Authority aforesaid that the Several and Respective County Treasurers shall pay the same out of the pol Tax and loan Money in their hands, the party applying for the same first produceing a Warrant from under his Excellency the Governour's Hand.

And be it further Enacted by the Authority aforesaid That no County Treasurers shall hereafter let out to Interest any Loan Money or Intrest arising from the Loan Money any Law Usage or Custom to the Contrary Notwithstanding.

And be it further Enacted that this Act shall be and Remain in force for the term of three Years and from thence to the End of the Next Session of Assembly and no Longer.
