AN ACT to ascertain the Allowance of His Majestys Council and the Members of Assembly of this Province


Whereas no Provision hath been hitherto made by any Law of this Province for settling and Affixing any certain sum to the Members of his Majesties Council and the Members of Assembly; We therefore pray that it may be Enacted, And be it Enacted by his Excellency Gabriel Johnston Esqr. Governour the Council and Assembly, that every Member of His Majesty’s Council shall be allowed and paid the sum of Forty Shillings currant Bills; And every Member of the Assembly the sum of Thirty shillings current Bills per day for every day they shall attend at the General Assemblies. And be it further Enacted that the Several Members aforesaid shall be allowed as aforesaid for their coming and going to and from the Assembly as follows;

          From New Hanover and Bladen Precincts                    16 Days

          From Carteret Precinct                                                     11 Days

          From Craven Precinct                                                      10 days

          From Beaufort Precinct                                                     6 days

          From Hide Precinct                                                            6 days

          From Tyrril Precinct                                                          4 days

           From Bertie Precinct                                                         6 days

           From Chowan Precinct                                                     2 days

          From Pequimmans Precinct                                              4 days

          From Pasquotank Precinct                                               6 days

          From Currituck Precinct                                                    8 days

And be it further Enacted, That this Act remain and be in force untill the End of the Bienial Assembly, which shall meet in November in the year One Thousand Seven hundred and Thirty Seven, and no longer.

And be it further Enacted, that the Members of His Majesties Council and the Members of Assembly who have attended at this present Session, shall be allowed as in this Act is directed for future Assemblies.
